The 17th (10th Women’s) World Taekwondo Championships, held in
Madrid, Spain on Apr. 13-17, ended in success. A total of 748
competitors that broke down to 449 male and 299 female athletes,
took part in the biennial competitions.
The 114 nations, the largest ever, dispatched athletes to the
just-ended Championships. Overall men's team title was captured by
Korea that took four gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Korea
also won women’s team title by taking three gold, two silver and one
bronze.
Two-minute three rounds and sudden-death system were applied to all
matches of the Championships in order to make the competition more
action-packed and reduce any room for misjudgment.
